He was born in Catania in 1960. Graduated in pharmaceutical chemistry, since 1979 began working with various newspapers as a photojournalist. Since 1990 he teaches history and photographic design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Catania, which in 2006 became Director. Director of the school of photography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Catania. He regularly gives courses and seminars on “Analysis and Design in Contemporary Photography”, with a specialization in visual anthropology at universities and foundations, Italian and foreign. Since 2000 he is involved in several international projects, publishing and exhibition of associo anthropological, with a focus on the themes of identity, memory, of collective phenomena, the relationship with history. Since 2010 the project has enabled Word-Vision with a series of studies that analyze the relationship between photography and writing. Carmelo Nicosia is considered one of the greatest authors of the new Italian photography, a link between tradition and social and anthropological research in new media. His works are held in the most important Italian and foreign collections. He lives and works in Catania. |
