Nasce e cresce nelle campagne della California del Nord. Studia dapprima arti creative all'università di Berkley per poi, dopo una pausa di un decennio in cui fa un altro lavoro, studiare ancora presso l'Art Students League di New York sotto la guida di Barney Hodes. Si laurea in scultura all'università di Berkeley e MIT, ed in seguito vive in Europa e in Asia per cinque anni. Attualmente vive e lavora a Rye, New York.
